David Lee Whitney

David Lee Whitney (Dave) was born on January 5, 1948 in Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Christopherson, and father, Ronald Whitney. Dave graduated as senior class president from Iowa Falls high school in 1966. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Luther College in Decorah, IA where he also played basketball and was a captain his senior year. While in college he met his first wife, Kathryn Ann Klawiter (Kathy). Upon graduating from Luther, Dave accepted a job with Arthur Andersen and he and Kathy moved to Minneapolis, MN where they started and raised a family. While working at Arthur, Dave transitioned from accounting to human resources, and later co-founded the job placement agency Brandt Whitney. Later, the company was reorganized as Whitney & Associates specializing in the placement of finance and accounting professionals. Dave was later married to Sherri Partanen for a brief period and together they led Whitney & Associates until his retirement. Outside of work, Dave's hobbies included fishing with friends as well as being an avid sports enthusiast, whether playing first base for the Arthur Andersen softball team, attending his children's various sporting events, or hosting his bi-annual pre-game gathering for the Iowa vs. Minnesota college football game. Dave also looked forward to his annual family vacation trips to Okoboji, IA with close family friends, the Price's, Gauck's, and Weaver's. Although a significant car accident in 1988 and a number of health ailments in recent years slowed him down, Dave had an upbeat attitude and maintained his passion for conversation and socializing with all around him. Quick-witted with a healthy dose of sarcasm and self-deprecating humor, Dave always wanted those around him to smile and have a good time. Dave is survived by his children, Elizabeth (fiance, Dave Smith) and Tyler (Fedrecia); grandchildren, Preston, Tyler and Skyler; siblings, Rayma, Stewart (Hilda), Kevin, and Cal; former wife, Kathy Elgethun, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
