David Lee Pederson

David L. Pederson, age 81, of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away on October 11, 2022, at Friendship Village. Washburn-McReavy, Dawn Valley Chapel, 9940 Bush Lake Rd Bloomington, MN 55438, is assisting the family with arrangements. David L. Pederson was born on August 29, 1941, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to parents Leslie and Helen (Westendorf) Pederson. David is survived by his beloved wife, Diane, for 56 years. He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1959. He received a degree in Architectural Engineering from Iowa State University in 1964 and a PhD in Civil Engineering Structures from University of Minnesota in 1970. He served in the US Army Reserve from 1964-1970. David helped start ESI Engineering in 1970 in Bloomington, Minnesota. At the time, ESI was a leader in computerized analysis of structures. There he became a respected consulting engineer in structural dynamics, earthquakes and vibration. He continued to work for the firm after his retirement and enjoyed tackling all the unique projects that came his way and the comradery with his colleagues. He continued to be a member of the Rotary Club of Bloomington Noon for over 30 years and a member of Rotary's Paul Harris Society. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing competitively in the Dwan Men's club. David said his greatest joy in life was spending time with the love of his life, Diane. They did everything together. They enjoyed their home, traveled to many parts of the world and hoped for a long retirement. To those who knew David, he was a problem solver and will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Helen Pederson; his brother, Gerald Pederson; and sister, Kathleen Pederson. David is survived by his wife, Diane; brother, Randy (Ann) Pederson of Grand Forks, ND; two sisters, Nancy (Robert) Youel of Blaine, MN, and Lorie (Robert) Callen of Cambridge, MN; as well as three nieces, Erin Pederson, Leslie Pederson, Kate Callen; and a nephew, Stephen Callen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 4 at 11AM at St. Michaels Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Blvd, Bloomington, MN, with Pastor Ryan Alvey officiating. A visitation will begin at 10 AM and a lunch will be served following the service. A private Inurnment will be held at Dawn Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Bloomington or the Rotary Club of Bloomington Noon.
