David McMahon

McMahon, David J. 74, of Edina, MN passed away on March 27, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Helen McMahon; brother, Gary; and grandson, Thomas. Survived by his loving wife, Colleen Anne (Phelan) and their seven children, Cammy Baer (Tim), David Jr., Kevin (Kate), Danny (Colleen), Mary Kate McFadden (Mike), Margo Fochler (Steve), and Julie McMahon. Also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Jack, Michael, Matt, Danny, Meg, Joseph, Jane, Maura, Emmett, Maeve, Danny, Fiona, Seamus, Nuala, Conor, Patrick, Molly, Sean, Brendan, Danny, Libby, Jane, Tanner, Lily and Aidan. Also survived by brother Steve (Trish), and sisters Carol Young (George) and Patty Cumming (Charles), and sister-in-law Zita McMahon. Born in Brooklyn, New York on Sept. 17, 1936, Dave was raised on Long Island as a long-suffering Brooklyn Dodgers fan, and developed a life-long love of music, his Irish heritage, and the beach. Fulfilled a childhood dream by attending and graduating from the University of Notre Dame, and remained a devoted fan of the Fighting Irish. Met Colleen Phelan of Beaumont, Texas in the spring of 1958 and thus began one of the great love affairs of all time. Dave and Colleen celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary this past January. In 1999, Dave retired after 39 years at General Mills, where he served as Director of Trade Relations representing the company in its dealings with key customers and industry groups. Although Dave accomplished much during the course of his career, his proudest and happiest moments were those spent in the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. His deep faith in God, personal integrity, loyalty, commitment to family, and sense of humor were all qualities that defined his life and were what made him the best spouse, father, grandfather, or friend a person could ever have. We love you, Poppy. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Menge, and all of the physicians, nurses, aides and staff of Frauenshuh Cancer Center.
