David Louie

David Louie, age 89 of Forest Lake / Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 3rd, 2024 with his son by his side. He was a man of great compassion, care, and generosity-he worked tirelessly to create a life rich with opportunities that he shared with his loved ones. He was born and raised in China where he was the youngest of three. As a young man he journeyed to a variety of places including Hong Kong to learn to be a chef, Hawaii to be with his sister and brother as well as work in his sisters restaurant, and then to Minnesota to pursue a real legacy. Once in Minnesota, he decided to set down roots, grow his family, and create a better life for those around him, and delicious food. In short, he sought to pursue a better future for himself and his family. David met his wife Meina and together they forged a loving marriage for 42 years until her passing in 2022. Given their shared love of food, they both worked the restaurant life until retiring. Throughout their marriage they created a strong bond that was authentically them- it had challenges like any relationship while also being grounded in strong values and morals which allowed them to work through anything as a team. Regardless of the hardship, they loved each other and took care of each other until her passing. To all who looked at their union, it was evident that she was his rock and he was hers. David was man with a variety of hobbies and expertise spanning martial arts under Master Gin Food Mark, fishing with his son and niece, eating delicious food, and sharing his time with good people. Additionally, he was an incredible man of strength and resilience who worked hard his entire life. Through his trials and tribulations he quickly realized he needed to find a way to launch his own entrepreneurial endeavor. As a result, he started Bing Louie's & Cheung Sing Restaurant in Forest Lake, Minnesota. Throughout his life, David was a compassionate man who took care of his family. He worked hard and sacrificed so much in order to achieve his American Dream-a loving family, a successful business, and staying true to his morals, while providing opportunities to those he could especially for his family and friends. Further, he modeled values rooted in love, family, and commitment which directly shaped his son to be the man he is today. David's grandchildren were his pride and joy, and his love and affection for them was boundless. Whenever they would spend time together, his grandchildren made him have the biggest smiles. People always noticed how smiley he was, which is something his son has also been caught doing. His resilience was matched only by the strength of his heart. David valued family, health, and character above all else. Furthermore, he consistently set and maintained an example as a role model-guiding his son and community in embodying goodness, fairness, and strength. In every sense, he proved to be an exceptional father, grandfather, husband, brother, family member, and friend to many. The void left by his absence will be intensely felt, yet his memory and legacy will always carry on in our hearts. David was preceded by his parents, parent in-laws, wife, and brother.
