David Willard Forse

David Willard Forse of Golden Valley, MN passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Golden Valley Assisted Living on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. He was 90 years old. David was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Lehrke Forse, his parents J.W. "Bill" Forse and Gertrude Sweat Forse of Crystal, MN, infant sister JoAnn Forse, and sister M. Suzanne Byerley of Solon, Ohio. Surviving family includes his daughter, Diane Michele Forse of Williamsburg, Virginia, grandchildren, Stephen Dickinson of Minneapolis, Joshua Dickinson of Portland, OR and Samantha Dickinson of Anchorage, AK as well as a brother John Forse (Cheryl) and nieces, Erin, Nicole, Tanya, Elisa and Lorien. David was born June 17, 1933 in Galesburg, IL. He attended schools in Illinois, Iowa and Texas. After a 4-year term of service as a navigator in the Air Force, David returned to Minneapolis to be near his parents. He graduated with a degree in History from the University of Minnesota. It was at the U where David met his first wife, Ione Doretha Hozendorf, with whom he had his daughter. "Dot" and Dave lived several years in Connecticut where Dave tried his hand at the antiques business. After their marriage ended, Dot moved to Los Angeles with Diane. David returned again to Minneapolis where he met Patricia in the Singletons Social Club. During the early years of their marriage, Dave and Pat lived in Miami, FL where he worked at Ebonite and at All Tech Industries, Recreational Division in premium and institutional sales. In Minneapolis, David worked in marketing at Brinktun (pool tables) and later as a cost estimator and personnel manager at Schaper Toy Manufacturing (Cootie, Mr Potato Head, The Last Straw, Playmobile). He said it wasn't as fun as it sounds. Having had enough of the Florida heat, Dave and Pat returned to Golden Valley where they felt at home and where they remained for the rest of their lives. They shared a love of travel, collecting quirky antiques, volunteering with the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra and their church, Central Lutheran. Always a lover of joking around, when told that everyone needs someone to cry for them when they leave this world, David replied, "don't cry for me, laugh for me!" Although he could be difficult for those who wanted to be closer to him, David will be remembered for his playful spirit, love of laughter, his handyman skills, puttering around the house, his numerous collections from coins to shot glasses and for his love of Dad jokes and storytelling. Visitation at 1:00pm and service at 2:00pm will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Central Lutheran Church, Minneapolis with refreshments following. The burial will be at 1:30pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
