Dat Tat Dao

Dat Dao, lovingly known as "Papa Dat," passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and came to St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1975, where he built a life rooted in hard work, perseverance, and deep devotion to his family. Dat was a devoted husband and father whose greatest priority was his family. He showed his love through his actions and by leading through example-working tirelessly to ensure his children were cared for and happy. Nothing mattered more to him than knowing his family was safe and provided for. He especially enjoyed being around family and friends, finding joy in simply spending time together. Whether through shared meals, conversation, or quiet moments, Dat valued togetherness and the connections that brought everyone close. He was happiest when he watched his children grow up with happy, fulfilling childhoods. He was incredibly proud when they later graduated college and built thriving careers. He was also a loving and proud grandfather to his four grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. He truly lived the American dream. A skilled machinist by trade, Dat was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked hard every day, never shying away from responsibility, and took great pride in providing a better life for his family through his labor and sacrifice. Dat is survived by his beloved wife, Chinh Dao; his son, John Dao (Michele Dao); and his daughter, Jennifer Juskowiak (Richard Juskowiak). He will be remembered for his quiet strength, selflessness, and the unwavering dedication and love he had for his family. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, from 12:00-2:30 p.m. at Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff at Regions Hospital for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Dat and his family. Papa Dat's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and through the values of dedication, selflessness, care, and resilience he passed on to them.
