Darlene Signe Rose Flemming

Darlene Signe Rose (Hodges) Flemming (age 81) of Ames, Iowa, passed from this life to her eternal home May 21, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born July 3, 1939 in Spencer, Iowa and grew up in Worthington, MN where she was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost. Darlene graduated from Worthington High School. She attended Macalester College in St. Paul, MN where she received her degree in elementary education. She married her best friend Donald (Don) Flemming on July 24, 1965. They made their home in the St. Paul area. She taught in the St. Paul School system for 40 years and was very active in her church and teaching Sunday School. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, entertaining guests, sending cards or letters and encouraging everyone she came in contact with. She courageously fought a battle of reoccurring cancer for 22 years always keeping a positive outlook on life. The last 10 years of her life she moved to Ames, Iowa where her and Don enjoyed helping their son and his family who pastor New Life Church. Her greatest times were spent celebrating with her family and friends. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Reverend Lloyd and Esther Hodges. Darlene is survived by her loving husband Don of 56 years, her children, Debra (Ben), Daniel (Amanda) and her grandchildren, Kaylin (Jalen), Nathan, McKenzie, and Bowen, brother-in-law Reverend Duane (Gloria) Flemming, brothers, Reverend Dale (Dorothy) Hodges, David (Joyce) Hodges, and sister, Joy Gilliam, cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 7pm at New Life Church (3505 South Duff Avenue, Ames, IA). Visitation will be Friday, May 28, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm at Apostolic Bible Church (6944 Hudson Blvd. N., Oakdale, MN) and Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 10am to 11am. The Funeral Service will begin at 11am on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, you may consider giving to the Darlene Flemming Scholarship Fund. Checks can be made out to "UPCI Foundation" with "Darlene Flemming Scholarship Fund" in the memo. The family would like to thank her physicians and caregivers who provided care during her cancer journey which includes her brother, David, for the hours of piano music and her sister, Joy who provided 24-hour care in her final weeks.
