Darlene Derman Auch

Mary Ann Darlene Derman Auch, age 92, of Woodbury, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the loving company of her daughters. Darlene was born on June 19, 1932, in Grand Forks, ND, to Fred and Marie Kranzler. She was one of two children and is survived by her sister, Diana Norlund; children Joanna (Michael) Lerud, James (Dawn) Derman, Daniel (Tonya) Derman, and Wendy (Tom) Haugen; grandchildren Arika (Caleb) Mason, Tony (Maddie) Lerud, Katie (Isaac) Allmaras, Joshua Lerud, Megan and Molly Derman, Wyatt, Annika, and Rondi Derman, Charlie and Holly Haugen; and nine great-grandchildren. Darlene graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1950 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of North Dakota in 1954. She married her first love, Ronald "Ronnie" Derman in 1954. They met at a summer Bible camp, reconnected in college, and tied the knot shortly after a whirlwind long-distance relationship that grew while Ron was in the Navy. They raised four children. Darlene and Ron spent their lives together in ministry, serving churches in Hettinger and Harvey, ND, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Fessenden, ND. After Ron's passing from cancer at the age of 43, Darlene returned to Grand Forks, ND with her children in 1975. She resumed her nursing career as a school nurse and Health Occupations teacher, and retired in 1994 from Red River High School. In 1989, she married Clem Auch, a widower, and long-time minister and missionary. Marrying Clem also brought the blessing of adding his family of four married children, Deborah (John) Killick, Karen (Les) Johnson, Bernard (Joan) Auch, and Gary (Dorothy) Auch and his grandchildren to her life. He preceded her in death in 2013. Darlene accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a ten-year-old, and she continued to be a steadfast follower of Jesus. Scripture memorization was such a comfort and source of strength to Darlene-especially when Ron was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 41 and when she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 82. She also had a desire for everyone to have a relationship with Jesus. She shared about Jesus with friends and neighbors, and even her Metro Mobility drivers! Playing the piano and organ for church, caring for her flowers, organizing the 55+ fellowship group, exercising, eating popcorn, and especially being with her family gave her lots of joy! Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at noon at Memorial Park North Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral will be Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Redeemer Baptist Church in Oakdale, MN with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, memorial service at 11:00 AM, and a luncheon following. In lieu of flowers memorial preferred. "Well done, good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:21
