Daniel Sullivan

Sullivan, Daniel C. Age 87. Born Oct. 8, 1918, died May 27, 2006. Preceded in death by parents, Cornelius and Jeanette Sullivan; brother, James Sullivan; sisters, Jeanette Sullivan Hegg and Olivia Sullivan. Survived by wife of 62 years, Beatrice; daughter, Danette Johnson (Bill); son, Gary Sullivan (Donna); brother, Thomas Sullivan (Phyllis); sister, Helen Sullivan Lee; grandchildren, Bradley (Suzanne), Kimberly (Kevin), Brian (Sarah), David (Tammy), Gillian, Ryan, Christopher; great grandchildren, Kyle, Elizabeth, Kady, Arwen and Maxwell; along with many loving relations in the Sullivan, Fenn, Hegg and Lee families. Dan graduated from Edison High School in 1936. He enlisted in the Navy on Dec. 8, 1941 - the very day after he learned of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Aviation Machinist's Mate Sullivan was stationed in the Aleutians for the duration of the war, flying many reconnaissance missions over hostile territory. Dan and Bea were married in 1944. Upon his honorable discharge, Dan attended the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology on the G.I. bill, receiving his Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. His long and distinguished professional career includes many years as an executive with the Control Date Corporation, where he served as a Group Vice President and as Manager of the Advanced Projects Lab. Subsequently, he became Manager/Executive for ETA Packaging Technology Concepts, where he developed the patent for the Cryostat Cooling Systems with Mr. Earle Mazorol. Dan was a lifetime member of the Fred Babcock VFW Post 5555 in Richfield. A devoted family man, he adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was adored by them in return. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the Gunflint Trail, and he relished his many fly-in fishing trips to Canadian waters. Dan was a golfer, a bowler and a man who enjoyed life to the full. He shunned the limelight, preferring hard work and quiet generosity. In this and indeed every way, he was the quintessential member of what has rightly come to be called "The Greatest Generation". Dan will be profoundly missed by all whose lives were so blessedly touched by his. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Minneapolis, or to Allina Hospice.
