Daniel Michael Echols, beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, traveler, and lover of a good coupon, passed away on August 21, 2026, after a quick and progressive battle with Parkinson's disease. Dan was born on April 27, 1945, and built a life full of adventure, laughter, and dedication to the young people he taught. He spent his career as a math teacher at Battle Creek Junior High in St. Paul, Minnesota, shaping the minds and lives of countless students. He and his beloved wife, Patricia, lived in Sweden, where Dan first taught abroad. Throughout their marriage and into their later years, Dan and Pat explored the world with joyful curiosity and adventurous spirits, visiting Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, and many other destinations. Dan and Pat raised their family in Fridley, Minnesota, where they built a home filled with love, humor, and memories that will last a lifetime. Those who knew Dan knew a few things were true - he always had a coupon, he had exactly one speed, he always knew the best driving route and was not shy about sharing it, he could snap along to the oldies like a boss, and he delivered every joke with full commitment. Above all, Dan was a deeply caring, kind, and extraordinarily devoted provider for his family - a man who gave everything he had to the people he loved and made sure they always knew they were cared for. He was an avid hunter and bowler. He faced his final chapter with quiet dignity and grace, navigating a rapid, progressive battle with Parkinson's disease, surrounded by his family's love until the very end. Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia; his children, Christopher Echols and his wife Theresa, Nicole Auer, and Matthew Echols and his wife Kat; his grandchildren, Cassandra, Andrew, Oskar, Aksel, Weston, and Ember; and his sister, Patti Echols. There will not be a funeral at this time, as Patricia and the family have asked for time to grieve and heal privately after Dan's passing. A celebration of his life will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations of school supplies be made in Dan's memory in honor of his lifelong dedication to education and his students.
