Dale Leonard Miller

Dale Leonard Miller, born September 14, 1947, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Dale shared 48 glorious years of marriage with the love of his life, Susan Kay (Stangl) Miller. The two were married on November 12, 1977, and built their home and life together in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, where they lived for thirty‑four years. Dale and Sue were blessed with kitties (Harry, Butterball, Barney, Bouncer, Frosty and George) who were lovingly called their children. Their partnership was the foundation of Dale's happiest days, and all who knew him are grateful that he found in Sue a companion who helped him grow into a man of deep faith, kindness, and joy. Over the years, Dale worked in many roles-long‑haul truck driver, school bus driver, garbage truck driver, and eventually machinist. He spent his machining career with Graco and later many dedicated years at Excalibur Metal Cutting before retiring. No matter the job, Dale brought a strong work ethic, loyalty, and a steady presence that made him a valued coworker and friend. Dale's heart was always with his family and community. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors, and telling stories (even if some were not true). He volunteered his time generously, especially helping youth get to activities and caring for association properties-meticulously enough that, as many joked, "you could eat off the grass." A man of faith, Dale was re‑baptized at age 78 with ChristLife Church, a moment that reflected the gratitude and renewal he found later in life. His journey was shaped by love, especially the love he shared with Sue, who encouraged him to embrace life fully, trust in God, and become the best version of himself. Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Miller; his daughter, Jamie (Robert) Ernst of Blaine, MN; his brother Gary Miller; his sisters Cathy (Tom Steifer) Miller, Karen (Rollie Gilson) Elwood, and Carla (Michael) Winiecki; his brother‑in‑law Tom (Becky) Stangl; his grandchildren Amanda Napierala, Brianna Smaker, Candice Bissonette, and Destiny Bissonette; nine great‑grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including Melissa (Murray) Prust, Shawn (Kristin) Miller, Mitchell Elwood, Paul Elwood, Andrew Steifer, Kyle (Elizabeth) Winiecki, Nichol Winiecki, Peter (Emily) Stangl, Stephen (Hope) Stangl, and Nathan Stangl. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irene Theresa (Tibiatowski) Miller and Daniel Cornelius Miller; his brother Bryan "Harry" Miller; and his maternal grandparents, Mary (Petrowski) Tibiatowski and John Tibiatowski. Dale will be remembered for his loyalty, his generosity, his humor, and the quiet strength he carried through life. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friends he supported, and the community he served. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to ChristLife Church, 4555 University Ave NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421.
