Corrine Austin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Austin, Corrine Rangel of Columbia Heights, MN passed over August 22nd, 2026 at age 96. Corrine was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a young child with her parents who were seeking employment. As a young woman she met Stewart Austin whom she married and they spent 73 years together raising their five children. Corrine was strongly influenced by her family to be a loving, caring Catholic woman who embraced her ancestry as a Latina. Our lives were enriched with the traditional Mexican meals she'd occasionally rotate into her "American" meal plans. Nothing like a homemade tortilla! She loved gardening and her gardens were the envy of the neighborhood with stunning blooms and beautifully landscaped yards. Cheering on her kids' during their sports games and school events was her way of enjoying life. Her love was unconditional and she was always there for them. She was quite an athlete herself participating in bowling, swimming (synchronized swimming in her teens) and golf. Her claim to fame was having shot a hole-in-one while golfing with her lady's golf group. She learned tailoring while at Vocation High School and carried it through her life awing many with her sewing skills. Corrine is survived by her children Kathy Olson (Richard), Lucy Hartel (Craig), Rick Austin (Susie Johnson), Ron Austin (Jill) and Mark Austin; grandchildren Sarah Koch (Tim), Matt Olson, Ashley (Nick Schmidt), Allison (Jordan Metsa), Grant Austin, Mary-Catherine Doxey (Pete), Paul (Kristin) Austin, Andrew (Marisa) Austin and Michelle Austin (Mihail Yankov), Billy Austin and Lindsey Austin; great-grandchildren Hailey, Jacaiah, Jazaeh, Layla, Alick, Morgan, Kendra and Charlie. Siblings Carolina Kohn, Lucia Rangel, and Juan Rangel. Preceded in death by her beloved great-grandson James, her parents, Juan and Jesusita Rangel and siblings, David Rangel, Rebecca Thurner and Daniel Rangel. Mass of Christian Burial September 3rd, 11 AM in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 4030 Jackson Street NE, Columbia Heights, MN with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
