Christopher Allen Larson

Larson, Christopher (Chris) (81) of Maple Grove MN died peacefully at home on June 21. Preceded in death by his wife, Katie (Heinrich) and his parents, Edwin and Phyllis Larson of Redwood Falls MN. Survived by son Jeff (Glenda Kaufman), daughter Michelle, grandchildren Christopher (Lisa), Joshua and Jacob, and four great grandchildren Konsondra, Tyler, Bria and Wyatt, brothers Scott (Robin Stegner), Tom, Eric (Itsue) and sister Terri (Joel Simon). Christopher (Chris) Lason was born on February 12, 1945, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis MN. The oldest of five children born to Edwin and Phyllis Larson, he spent his childhood in Redwood Falls MN. It was there that he met the love of his life, Katie. They were married immediately following high school and over the next two and a half years, had two children, son Jeffrey and daughter Michelle. Chris was a motorcycle enthusiast from an early age, and this passion remained throughout his life. Over the years, he owned many motorcycles, most notably a custom 9 ft long Harley Davidson chopper he called the Ditch Witch and an '86 Super Glide he called Dancer. He rode the chopper to the Sturgis motorcycle rally for the first time in the early 70's, which became an annual event. These early trips included multiple roadside repairs until he finally made it there and back without incident in the early 80s...on a different Harley. Another milestone motorcycle trip was to witness Evel Knievel attempt to jump the Snake River in 1974. A terrifying crash almost ended the adventure and his life, but with the help of friends and a U-Haul trailer, he made it there, just to be disappointed by Evel's failed attempt. The '86 was known for its speed, and it inspired many of his friends to customize their own motorcycles trying to catch him. The V-twin rumble stirred his soul up through the last day of his life. Chris had a long career with the telephone company, starting out with Northwestern Bell in 1964. He retired early but continued to work in various contract roles for years. He especially loved his training roles and was an amazing teacher of both safe driving and pole climbing. In fact, he was a fearless pole climber, demonstrating how to safely climb a 90 ft pole, giving many students the confidence to do what they never thought possible. Chris and Katie developed many friendships over the years that brought so many stories, laughter, and joy into their lives. Wherever they lived, their home became a gathering place for friends and family. The door was always open, and it wasn't uncommon to find their home filled with people after the bar closed enjoying their infamous eggs and tortillas. They were very active with the American Legion in Osseo which became a home away from home. If they were traveling, they always made new friends who eventually became old friends. It is said that Chris never met a stranger. He had a curiosity and interest in people that allowed him to make connections with just about everyone. He had great friends from all walks of life, spanning all life's stages. He was one of the best story tellers around. An evening around the campfire with Chis was entertainment on an unmatched level. He was deeply loyal and fiercely protective of those he cared about. To be his friend was to be his family. Chris will be deeply missed by so many. Stories that include him will survive for generations. He was one-in-a-million. Visitation at 9:30a and memorial service at 11a on Friday, July 31st at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel in Crystal, followed by a 12:45p luncheon at the American Legion in Osseo.
