Charles "Chuck" Rice

Rice, Charles E. "Chuck" age 81, of Eden Prairie, MN died peacefully in hospice care due to an Alzheimer's-related infection on March 1, 2012, with family at his side. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, brother, uncle. Preceded in death by parents, Frank Rice and Mary Dietrich Rice, sisters, Florence and Sister Eileen, brother, Richard. Survived by beloved wife Alice of 56 years, and six children: Barbara Van Hauer (Chris), Stephen (Nancy), and Eileen (Laurie Jones) of Minnetonka; Lisa of Bloomington; Mary of Nokomis, FL; Nancy of Milwaukee, Wl. Survived by grandchildren, JP & Andrew Van Hauer; Nick Rice (Brytten), Eric Rice (Jayme), Stephanie Hagen (Erik); and Dylan Rice; two great-grandchildren; brothers Don (Betty) of Belleville, IL, James (Betty) of Springfield, PA, Ben (Judy) of Dayton, OH and sister, Rita Parker of Columbia, IL, 30 nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. He was a runner, marathoner, cyclist, golfer, avid traveler, and a loyal Cardinals and Twins fan. Chuck sought to make better the lives of those less fortunate. His infectious laughter and compassionate spirit will be missed by all. Chuck served in U. S. Army (1953-55). Received B.S. from St. Louis University (1956); J.D. (1959). Joined Monsanto in 1956; named Director of International Taxes at Monsanto (1968-74); joined Cargill in 1974; named Tax Director (1975-1981); Vice-President and Director of Taxes at Cargill (1981-1991); Member and Past President (1981-82) Tax Executives Institute; former member of Missouri and Minnesota Bar Associations. Served as officer and member of the Board of several nonprofit organizations: Loaves & Fishes, St. Therese Home; St. Therese Southwest; Clare House; Risen Christ Catholic School, P-Flag; was an active volunteer with St. Vincent DePaul (Naples. FL). St. Stephen's Church, and CPCSM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Loaves & Fishes, Risen Christ Catholic School, or Park Nicollet/Methodist Hospital Hospice. Visitation at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home, West 50th St. & Hwy 100, Edina, MN on Monday, March 5, 2012, 4-7 PM. Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday March 6, 2012 at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM, Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN.
