Carolyn Joyce Haas

Carolyn Joyce (Nystrom) Haas, beloved mother, Age 97 of Chanhassen, MN and formerly of Minneapolis and Bloomington, died peacefully January 28, 2026 at Riley Crossing Senior Living after a slow decline in health. Carolyn was born in Minneapolis, MN, on December 22, 1928, to Ethel Elvera (Lindroth) Nystrom and Charles Alfred Nystrom, the fifth of seven children. After the beginning of the Great Depression, her family moved to Grasston, MN, where she spent her childhood years through high school. At age eighteen, she moved back to Minneapolis for work, where she eventually met the love of her life, Harold Arlyn Haas, on a blind date. They married on September 22, 1951. Carolyn was employed by Honeywell for the span of her working career, but she found the greatest joy in being a wife, mother, and grandma. She loved baking snickerdoodles, krumkake, and spritz cookies, and her home-cooked roast beef dinners never failed to draw family home on Sundays. She loved polka dancing, playing bingo, sewing clothes, and crocheting, in addition to the time spent with her family and caring for her grandchildren, which she considered most precious. Survived by her daughters, Roxanne (Michael) McGowan of Alexandria and Corae (Douglas) Kruse of Chanhassen; four grandchildren, Laura Kurtz, Mallory (Eric) Lichtenberg, Collin and Carter Kruse; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and James Lichtenberg; sister, Sharon Nystrom; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel Nystrom of Grasston; her husband, Harold Haas; brothers, Erwin Nystrom, Odin Nystrom, Ellsworth Nystrom, Myron Nystrom; and sister, Valerie (Nystrom) Erickson. Mom was loving, kindhearted, and selfless, putting everyone else first. Living through the Great Depression herself, she made sure we always had warm clothes, dry feet, full tummies, and so very much more. She will be missed dearly by family, friends, and many relatives. We love you Mom. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church: 5025 Knox Avenue South, Minneapolis 55419. Phone 612-926-7651. A luncheon will follow. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Mount Olivet.
