Caroline Rose Maher Caroline Rose (Karabensh) Maher, of Bloomington, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away surrounded by family July 10 at age 97. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Catherine Karabensh; husband, Vincent; brothers, Karl, Richard, and Jack; and sisters, Else, Charlotte, Catherine, Marian, Ruth Margaret and Ann. She is survived by her six children, Rita (Leroy) Chavez, Jim (Antoinette) Maher, Gary (Marcia) Maher, Sandy Maher, John (Linda) Maher and Laurie (Mike) Padilla; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Carol was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 14, 1927, and later moved to a farm in North Dakota. She met her husband Vincent in North Dakota and then moved to Minneapolis in 1948. Carol and Vincent were married on April 26, 1949, in Mandan, North Dakota. Upon returning to Minneapolis, they started their family and lived first in St. Louis Park and then later moved to Bloomington. After the death of her husband in 1974, she took on her role as a single Mom and began a career in retail sales and store management before retiring in 1992. Once she retired, she began to travel. She took several trips with her sisters including two cruises. She also took trips with her daughters to London, England, Charleston and Washington D.C. She enjoyed hosting family and friends and was a wonderful cook who never left dessert off the menu. She was also known as a seamstress who kept grandchildren in new clothes (and pj's) throughout their childhood. She shared her love of sewing with others with numerous handmade baby layette items and comforters donated to Bundles of Love. She loved game night and excelled at card games, dominoes and puzzles. Her home was always filled with love and laughter. She also became an avid greeting card maker and produced beautiful cards that everyone appreciated receiving. She had a love of birds and there were many bird decorations all around her home. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19 with visitation one hour prior at The Church of St. Edward Catholic Church in Bloomington. Luncheon reception will follow. Private Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the charity of your choice.
