Caroline E. Christenson

Christenson, Caroline E. age 90, died peacefully at home in the care of her family on December 30, 2015. Caroline was born on September 12, 1925 to Harry C. and Margaret McCullough. She was married on September 18, 1943 to Harold R. Christenson who preceded her in death shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. She was also preceded in death by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She is survived and will be greatly missed by: her sisters, Evelyn Rupp (Cal,dcd) and Marjorie Modlin (Charlie,dcd); her brother-in-law, Walter Christenson (Sally); her five children and their spouses, Jim (Sandy), Lynn Roghair, Tom, Jean Forster (Don) and John (Lisa); her seven granddaughters and their families, Cathryn Peterson (Dave), Jessica Johnson (Jeremy), Elyse Farnsworth (Jon), Calie Ries (Brian), Catie Schurman (Jake), Brittany Brandeau (Nick) and Caroline Forster; and her eleven plus great grandchildren, Brady and Courtney Peterson, Mari, Micah, Lilly, Mercy, Olivia and Hadassah Johnson, Ayden and Bennett Farnsworth, Nora Schurman and soon to arrive baby Ries. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Caroline spent her youth in the Bronx, New York and arrived in Minnesota in late 1945 as the bride of a soldier from north Minneapolis whose pre-deployment training had brought him to New York City. After assisting him greatly in the completion of his education, the family moved to Britt, Iowa for Harold's first teaching job. In 1952, Harold joined the faculty at Robbinsdale High School and they moved to Crystal where she lived for the next 60 years. She was a busy and wonderful mom who was a room mother, den mother, scout leader, and hockey mom when that meant standing on a snowdrift next to the boards at a cold outdoor rink. She especially treasured the " Gram " time spent with her grand-daughters at the cabin in Longville, at grandparents camp and at their many activities. She was a long time member and pillar of Brunswick United Methodist Church serving in every capacity imaginable and had especially fond memories of her friends in circle, the breakfast group, and banner making. On behalf of Brunswick, she continued to visit shut-ins until her 85th year. She was actively involved in the wider church community and was a past president of Minneapolis Church Women United. She was a founding member and long-time chairperson of the Northwest Suburban Dinner at Your Door program and continued to be active on the board and to deliver meals into her 80's. Her community service was reflected in her being a WCCO Good Neighbor Award recipient. Mom's motto in life was "What can I do for others", and her greatest frustration in these last few years was that she couldn't serve as she once was able to. As she often told her children and grandchildren, "I have been blessed by God with a wonderful family and a long and happy life, and for that I am thankful." Visitation with the family on Sunday, January 3 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Washburn McReavy Dushane Chapel, 42nd & West Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN. Memorial Service at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, January 4, at Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, 4901 Chowen Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN. Private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
