Mrs. Carol Marie Turbenson

Turbenson, Carol Age 83, of Golden Valley, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 14th. Carol was born in Pipestone, MN, on November 6, 1939, the daughter of Dwight and Elsie (Amdahl) Thies. She attended school in Pipestone and graduated in 1957. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church. Carol attended Macalester College and Abbott Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with an RN degree. She enjoyed her work in the Emergency and Operating Room. She worked many years as an occupational health nurse for Honeywell/Alliant Tech. While attending school at Abbott Hospital she met Jim Turbenson. Jim and Carol were married on June 18th, 1960. They joined Calvary Lutheran Church in 1969. They were involved in many activities including singing in the choir and mission trips to Ecuador and Mexico. Also, epic trips to Jerusalem, Australia, New Zealand and many tours of Europe. Carol served on the Hunger and Human Needs Committee for many years where she became aware of the many needs of others. She used her knitting and sewing skills to create countless infant kits for Global Health Ministries and Lutheran World Relief. She enjoyed her dear friends in Ruth Circle for many years as well as their Small Group at Calvary. Carol was an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing delicious meals for friends, family, and holiday celebrations. She was a talented painter and artist who sold her crafts which helped pay for many family vacations across the United States. HCHS Gardening club was another outlet for Carol's outgoing and creative interests. Her perennial gardens brought her many hours of spring and summer activity and winter daydreams of the growing season to come. The flocks of backyard birds will also miss her homemade treats. Carol adored her grandchildren and instilled in them compassion and kindness. Her loving, generous spirit will be missed by all the many lives she touched. Carol is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Kristen (Dave), sons Tom (Suzy) and David (Gail), grandsons Karl (Kristen) and Jack, granddaughters Elena (Tom), Abby and Kay, great granddaughters Grace and Claire, brother Glen Thies (Elaine) and brother-in-law Steve (Sue). A service to celebrate Carol's faith and life will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 11 am with visitation from 10 - 11 am at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Rd, Golden Valley. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment at Fort Snelling will be held later this summer.
