Carol Jean Hill

Hill, Carol Jean age 90, died of ALS on 2/2/16 at her home in Crystal. Born March 24, 1925 in Waseca, the daughter of Guy & Clara (Paulson) Engebretson. She graduated from Waseca High School in 1943 as Valedictorian. She attended Mankato Teacher's College and the U of M where she obtained her BS and Masters. She taught in rural Steele County school, Winthrop Elementary, and Independent School District 281 in Minneapolis. While at Independent School District 287 in Minneapolis, she served in a number of positions including Middle School Specialty Teacher, Supervisor of the Developmentally Delayed Program and Teaching Principal. She retired April 12, 1990. She married John (Jack) Clark on June 24, 1950 at North Waseca Lutheran Church. Jack died at the young age of 34 of ALS. On May 20, 1961 she married Daniel Hill in Minneapolis. He died September 20, 2009. In her retirement years she attended Clown School in Wisconsin, later enjoying Clown Care Club as "Perky." She volunteered as a clown at school, care centers, churches, businesses and on church mission trips to Ecuador and Mexico. She was active, also, in Story Theater and Minneapolis Aquatennial Senior Alumni Association where she sang in the chorus. She was crowned Minneapolis Senior Aquatennial Queen in 1995. Devoted to her Lord, she served in many capacities at her church. Carol was very generous, and received great joy from bringing laughter and smiles to others. Carol is survived by her daughter Lee Ann (Randy) Koch of Mora, MN; and son Alan Hill of Crystal; two grandchildren Matthew and Rebecca Koch of Mora; three sisters Eunice (Linden) Vail of Waterville, Ramona (Maynard, dcd.) Wilkening of Janesville, Gwen (Bob) Johnson of Waseca; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands. Memorial service Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley.
