Carmela (Minnie) Lucas

Lucas, Carmela Maria (Minnie) Minnie Lucas (92) died peacefully on December 28, 2010 at the Clare Bridge nursing home in North Oaks, MN, where she was being cared for and treated for a very slow, but progressive form of dementia. Minnie, as she was known by her family and friends, was extremely proud of her Italian heritage. Born to Italian immigrants, Conjate and Angelo Cremisino, on February 15, 1918 in Cumberland, Wisconsin, they soon moved to her cherished Northeast Minneapolis where she spent most of her life. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Cornelius (Corny) H. Lucas; her sister, Helen Cremisino, and her brother, Joseph Cremisino. She is survived by her sister, Laura J. Cremisino and her brother, Henry F. Cremisino; as well as her four children, Roger C. Lucas, Richard H. Lucas, Kathleen A. Godar, and Thomas J. Lucas; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Minnie derived great joy and peace from her activities at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, a small Italian-American parish in Northeast Mpls where she was the choir director and organist for over 30 years. The church was less than a block from her parents' grocery store and their restaurant at 1220 Broadway Avenue Northeast. Her parents had emphasized an appreciation of education as a means of more fully participating in all the advantages that this country had to offer. Minnie, a National Merit Scholarship winner herself, in turn instilled in her children a deep understanding of the value of a good education and she delighted in the education achievements of her children and grandchildren. Her descendants, by family units are: Roger C. Lucas PhD (67) and Mary Ann (Graf) Lucas, and their children Bradley C. Lucas (40) (architect) and Jennifer (Pyle) Lucas M.A. and their children Zella and Aurelia; Brian P. Lucas MD (39) and Roberta (O'Dea) Lucas MD and their children Wylie, Roger and Roy; Brent T. Lucas JD (29) and Darya (Orandi) Lucas JD; Courtney (Lucas) Atwood JD (27); and Brett Atwood JD and their child Marianna. Richard H. Lucas PhD (65) and his children Daiquiri Lucas (44) and her child Sterling; Wade Lucas (40) and his child Angelia; and Derek Lucas (32) and Amanda (Martin) Lucas. Kathleen Ann (Lucas) Godar MA (63) and her children Michael Godar MS (40) and Mary Jo (Jeukens) Godar and their children Jessica and Julie Godar; Melissa Ann (Godar) Blakely (38) and Mark Blakely and their children Mark and Kilee Blakely. Thomas J. Lucas JD (59) and Terri (Bommarito) Lucas (of Redondo Beach, Calif).
