Bruce DeForrest Sheldon

Bruce Deforrest Sheldon, Age 84, passed away May 28, 2025 in White Bear Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Elizabeth. Survived by his wife Patricia of 61 years, sons Gregory (Rebecca) and Christopher (Joanne), brothers Douglas and Robert (Michelle), grandchildren Nathan and Gabrielle, great grandchild Tatum, and numerous nieces and nephews. From childhood Bruce had a lifelong interest in model airplanes. He started by building and flying U-Control planes, and progressed to building and flying radio-control airplanes and gliders for fun and in contests, winning many. Bruce also loved cars, and in high school rebuilt the engine on the family 1950 Mercury. In 1967 he purchased a BMW 2002 and in 1969 he purchased a Jaguar E-Type 4.2 convertible, which he raced at Limerock, CT. Bruce graduated from Lehigh University with a mechanical engineering degree. However, he worked primarily in Information Technology. He retired in 2003 after working 25 years for the Department of Administration at the State of Minnesota, as a Sr. Systems Analyst. Previous to that he worked for many corporations including AT&T, IBM, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In the 1980's Bruce attended night school at St. Paul College to learn to be a machinist, and incorporated the Sheldon Engineering Company. Using his engineering background and his machine technology skills, he manufactured a model airplane engine test stand that was sold throughout the USA and internationally. Bruce employed many young people, training them in machining and manufacturing skills to successfully produce machined metal products. He also repaired and provided high performance modifications for customers' model airplane racing engines. His dream was to design and manufacture his own gas powered model airplane engine, and he developed protocols for designing a line of engines. Although he was unable to reach his final goal, Bruce experienced joy in that journey. Bruce was a strong believer in God and the saving power of Jesus Christ. He was a defender of creationism vs. evolution and studied and taught on the subject at the adult forum of his church. Above all, Bruce was a loving husband and devoted father who passed his beliefs, values, and knowledge on to his sons and family. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Majestic Pines Community Church, located at 930 Mahtomedi Avvnue, Mahtomedi MN. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am - 11:00am, the service from 11:00 - Noon, with lunch following. Memorial contributions can be made to the Institute for Creation Research at ICR.org
