Betty Marie Finke

Betty Marie Finke (nee Peterson), age 88 of Coon Rapids, MN passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, with her children at her side. Preceded in death by husband Kenneth. Survived by sister Sharon, children Diane Jones (Scott Sheppard), Karen (Scott) Milbrath, Thomas (Bonnie), grandchildren Lindsay, Kristin (Mark), Kyle (Eryn), Maria (Ryan), Michael (Sarah), Monica, Megan, and great grandchildren Jack, Abby, Odin, Boden, Kiera, Noah, and Emmett. Betty grew up in Northeast Minneapolis, graduated from Edison High School and met Ken at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Northeast Minneapolis. They were married at St. Paul's on September 8,1956 and within a few years moved to Coon Rapids where they lived to celebrate their 60th anniversary. Betty began working as a directory assistant operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, in Coon Rapids. Her inherent kindness and compassion to see others advance helped promote her into supervisory positions and she ultimately retired as a manager in the Downtown Minneapolis office. In retirement, she generously provided childcare for her grandchildren and was always there to help her children navigate the challenges of life. Betty loved working in her gardens and could always be counted on for a game of cards or simple chat over a cup of coffee. As a member of Faith Lutheran Church, she helped deliver meals on wheels and provided food, when needed, to support church events. She always wanted people to feel welcome and comfortable while visiting her home and her warm hospitality reflected this. Betty loved the change of seasons but also enjoyed the times Ken and she would spend in Florida after the holidays. Of course, family and friends were always welcome and encouraged to visit. Spring, summer and autumn were filled with reunions, birthday get-togethers, state fairs and relaxing cabin time shared with loved ones and the serenity of the lake. Even after Alzheimer's began to strip away the memories and clarity in her life, she continued to remark how fortunate she was to have the life she lived, and expressed heartfelt appreciation for those around her, be it family, friends, health care staff or others. Funeral service to be held at 11 am Monday, March 24, at Faith Lutheran Church (11115 Hanson Blvd NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433) with a visitation at 10 AM, one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to Meals on Wheels or Feed My Starving Children.
