Bernice V. Holmberg

Bernice Virginia (Frans) Holmberg peacefully entered God’s eternal kingdom when she passed surrounded by her two loving sons and equally compassionate daughters-in-laws on Saturday September 15, at the Sunrise Senior Living of Golden Valley. Born July 1, 1928 in Duluth, Minnesota. Bernice was the only child of Swedish immigrants Anders Bernard Frans and Ada Jansson. She lived her early years in Duluth where she graduated from Duluth Denfeld in 1946 and then Duluth Junior College in 1948. She married John N Holmberg on December 30, 1950 in Duluth where they lived until relocating to St. Louis Park in 1956, where she raised her family and lived for 54 years. Bernice was always most proud of her own working career. Prior to having children she worked for the Manchester Biscuit Co. in Duluth, and then after raising her children she was a long time committed employee at Munsingwear USA, and then the Dayton Hudson Company. A “child of the depression” Bernice was masterful at financial management while raising her family. In her later years, there was never a “sale to missed”, and one of her biggest joys was sharing her special employee privileges and discounts with others. With truly a big heart, she demonstrated the lesson that it was “always better to give than receive.” In her retirement years, Jack and Bernice found great joy in the family of Peace Presbyterian Church with their retired friends where they also were able to enjoy many mission trips and outreach opportunities. A special note to all at Sunrise Golden Valley who took such great care of our mother. With your motto and philosophy for Senior care, we watched our mother’s rebirth of joy and happiness that we will keep with us forever. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Ada Frans and her husband John(Jack). She is survived by her children, Dr. Jeff(Kim) Holmberg, Annandale, Jill Frans, Eden Prairie, Julie(Doug) Henry, St. Anthony and John(Mary) Holmberg, Mpls. Grandchildren, Holly(Brian)Shea, Kayla(David) Damberger, Josh Vaughan, Shawn and Sara Henry and John Holmberg. Great Grand Child, Oliver John Pritchard. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 20, 2012 at Peace Presbyterian Church 7624 Cedar Lake Road, St. Louis Park.
