Barbara "Barb" Ann Suchomel

Barbara "Barb" Ann Suchomel, 83, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on November 13, 2024. Barb was born on November 27, 1940, to Alvin and Esther Borchardt in Elmira, Ontario. She was raised in Canada until the age of 8, when her parents and four older siblings (Roly, Paul, Walt, and Ruth) moved to Wisconsin and then to Lester Prairie, Minnesota, in 1953. She was proudly crowned prom queen in her junior year and graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1957. She met Dick Suchomel in 1955 at the Glencoe County Fair. They saw each other from 20 feet away and knew it was love at first sight. Dick and Barb wed soon after on June 29, 1957. They then moved to Excelsior, Minnesota, where they had their first son, Dick Jr. In 1961, they made a home together in Minnetonka and had their second son, Kirk. They have lived together in this same house for the last 63 years. Barb loved being a stay-at-home mom and wife while her kids were in elementary school, worked at Bridgeman's Ice Cream Parlor in Hopkins for three years, and went on to work at Budget Power as a lighting manager until she retired. She enjoyed spending time with her family outdoors - camping, hunting, boating, and snowmobiling. Barb honored her love for God by attending Zion Lutheran Church and taking time to read her Bible each day. She was fondly known as MeeMaw to her grandchildren (Chelsea, Meaghan, and Ayla) and loved nothing more than spoiling them as much as she could. She cherished singing, shopping, and telling stories. Barb will always be remembered for the love she had for her family and the light she had the ability to shine onto others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who love her. She joins her parents, siblings, and friends in Heaven. She is survived by her husband, sons, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A memorial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church (241 5th Avenue N, Hopkins, MN 55343), with visitation starting at 10:00 am. A burial service will begin at 3:00 pm at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery (18426 Cable Avenue, Lester Prairie, MN 55354). Family, friends, and all who love and knew Barb are invited to come together to celebrate and remember her life.
