Barbara Jensen Rein

It is with profound sadness that the family of Barbara (Ray) Jensen Rein announces her passing on Friday, February 20, at the age of 82. She was married for 63 ½ years to Richard (Dick) Rein, age 86, who survives her. Barbara was born on May 16, 1943 when her father was stationed in the Philippines during the war. She was the oldest child of Priscilla Lois (nee Lohman) and Raymond Carl Jensen. Barbara and Dick were born in and grew up in South Minneapolis. They met at Oliver Presbyterian Church and married in 1962 when Barb was just 19. They spent most of their adult life in California (primarily in Goleta and Santa Barbara). The couple returned to Minneapolis to be close to family a few years ago. It was in Goleta that Barbara and Dick raised their children, Steve (wife Kateri) and Rebecca (husband Mike). They now live in California and Kentucky, respectively. Barbara's grandchildren, in age order, are Caroline (California), Christopher and his wife Marina (Egypt), Brigitte, and Sylvia (the latter two living in Minneapolis). Her grand-dogs are Maggie and Lizzie. Barbara's seven siblings, in age order, are Mark (wife Abigail), Steven (wife Marliss), Grant (wife Lois), Scott, Todd (wife Jan), Margaret, and Jane (husband Dan). Her numerous nieces, nephews. and cousins are too many to list. Barbara had a joyful and fun-loving spirit (sometimes breaking into impromptu singing and dancing at any location). After Dick retired, they enjoyed traveling together to Hawaii and Europe, particularly enjoying their trips to Austria, France, Croatia, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Other interests included Bible Study Fellowship, volunteering with AWANA for 35 years, and going to Jazzercise classes for 27 years. Additionally, Barbara was proud that she played piano (and that she was largely self-taught), and she enjoyed listening to classical music and singing with the Covenant Living choir in Santa Barbara. Her passion for reading, learning about English royalty (she worked diligently to memorize ALL the kings and queens!), flowers, and her talent for beautifully decorating her home with thrift store finds cannot be overlooked. The family wishes to thank everyone at Covenant Living of Golden Valley who so lovingly cared for Barbara over the past year. You were a great blessing to her and to us. A funeral service and burial will be held on March 28 (time TBA), at the Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel in NE Minneapolis. She is now with the Lord whom she loved. We will miss you, Barbara. Rest in Peace.
