Barb Kay Quade

Cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother Sister - Age 64 Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 3, 2009 after a courageous 11 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Survived by loving husband Mark, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years of marriage; sons, Ryan (wife Rebecca), Ross (fiancé Marlene), Jordan; granddaughter, Chloe. Survived also by father, William Horn; brother, Kennan (Vickie) Horn; niece, Lindsey and nephew Grant; brothers-in-law, Miles (Karrie) Quade, John Quade; and many dear friends. Barb grew up on the west side of Green Bay, WI, graduating from U of W, Madison, 1968, with a degree in Elementary Education. It was at the U of W, Madison where she met her husband. After marriage to Mark in 1968 she taught 4th grade in Little Creek, Virgina while Mark was in USN. Returning to St Paul with Mark in 1971, she worked for the state of Minnesota as a public servant for the balance of her career. She received a Masters in Public Administration degree from Hamline University in 1990 and an Associates degree in Interior Design from Century College in 1996. Starting in 1972 she worked in the Physical Planning Dept at University of Minnesota serving as Bicycle Campus Coordinator, a job she much loved. She followed this with planning jobs at the Regional Transit Board and Metropolitan Council. Her last 10 years were spent working at the Minnesota Department of Transportation where she formed many good friendships. Barb took academics very seriously, but had a unique humorous side, which could produce much fun clowning around among good friends. She excelled in her career but at heart loved most when she could work with clothing, antique furniture and interior design projects for family and friends. Visitation 4-7 PM Monday, April 6th, with funeral service 7:00 PM at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM FUNERAL HOME, 515 W. Highway 96, Shoreview, MN, 651-482-7606. Private burial service Tuesday at Hillside Cemetery, 2600 - 19th Ave. N.E. Minneapolis, MN. Memorials preferred to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the American Cancer Society. Family wishes to thank Dr. Gail Bender, the nursing staff at the Fairview Southdale Oncology clinic and hospital, and the Fairview hospice for their kind and loving care.
