Arthur Vernon "Vern" Lundberg

Lundberg, Arthur Vernon "Vern" Vern was born on the autumnal equinox, September 22, 1918 in Minneapolis and died peacefully on the summer solstice, June 21, 2014 three days after suffering a massive stroke. Vern graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1937. In the spring of 1941 he enlisted in the army and, because he was the only one in the company who could type, started working for the 1st sergeant. When WWII broke out he was a 1st sergeant and landed on Omaha Beach on D plus 2, went through France and Germany and returned home safely. In July of 1943, on leave from the army, Vern married Elinor Sandberg in Minneapolis. When he came home they started their family, Kristine, David and Stephen. Vern worked in several jobs for a decade before landing a sales job in 1957 that he never left. He loved his work and brught smiles to everyone's faces with his stories, jokes and quirks. In 1984 he semi-retired, but kept his best accounts. He was most proud of his business with Northwest Airlines where for 26 years he supplied them with 90% of their placards for their aircraft. Many thanks to Bruce Lundeen, Bill Scott and all the people at Applied Power Products in Eagan for keeping Vern on their team. When Vern wasn't busy working, he was busy doing something else. There was no "job jar" at the Lundberg house. He hiked, cross country skied, played tennis and golf and exercised every morning. He and Elinor were charter members of Grace Lutheran Church in Deephaven and rarely missed attending. The year he semi-retired his mother died and willed her cottage on Lake Vermilion to him. For the next 30 years, he and Elinor went there weekends and entertained family and friends. His phrase, now a plaque, "Where would you rather be?" sums up his feelings. Many thanks also to the doctors, nurses and staff at Methodist Hospital who made Vern's last three days comfortable. Vern was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor. He is survived by his daughter, Kristine Moorhead (John); his sons, David and Stephen and his grandchildren, Heather Moorhead (Steve Bemis), David Moorhead and Eric Lundberg.
