Arthur Peter Anderson

Arthur Peter Anderson (Art) of Coon Rapids passed peacefully on Sept 12th at age 92 after a long battle with lymphoma. He was a wonderful man and an example to all to the end. Art was born March 14, 1931 in Cloquet, MN, moving to Coon Rapids in his early teens to live with his aunt and uncle, Anna and Oscar Westlund after his mother's passing. At age 17, while attending Anoka High School, he met the love of his life and constant companion AuraLee (nee Hoskins). AuraLee and Art married in 1951 and moved to San Francisco where he served for 2 years in the Marine Corps. Returning to MN, Art pursued cabinet making which would become a lifelong passion. He was soon hired by J.R. Jones Fixture Company where he was to work for nearly 40 years, as a cabinet maker, draftsman, and estimator. Art also built a home shop where he designed and made many fine pieces for family and friends. Shortly after returning to MN, Art began work on a home for him and AuraLee in Champlin, MN. With minimal help, he built the home where he and AuraLee would live and raise their kids for over 65 years. Art loved deer hunting and fishing. He was a very successful deer hunter, able to use his sharp shooting skills with an open sight M1 rifle to fill his tag nearly every year. He loved fishing too, teaching his kids and grandkids to fish as soon as they could hold a rod. Art loved to laugh, telling stories and jokes, and making us laugh with silly faces to the end. He fought cancer, broken hips, and many ailments in the last few years with nearly no complaints and always firmly rooted in his faith. His last years were spent at Epiphany Pines surrounded by new friends and with excellent care by a team of dedicated and kind caregivers. Mr. Wonderful was a tough old Swede and will be fondly remembered by all. Art is survived by his wife of 72 years, AuraLee Anderson (nee Hoskins), his sons Jeffrey Anderson (Pamela, nee Daniels) and Steven Anderson (Kristine, nee Henke) and his daughter Robyn (Mark) Stephan (nee Anderson), his grandchildren Gunther Anderson, Grace Anderson, Vincent Stephan, Linnea Stephan, Acadia Stephan, Kaylee Anderson, and Lydia Anderson, and his great grandchild Ambrose Stephan. A service for Art will be held at Coon Rapids United Methodist Church, 10506 Hanson Blvd NW Coon Rapids, MN 55433, 10AM visitation, 11AM service, luncheon to follow.
