Arline Jakeman

Jakeman, Arline O. age 89, of Bloomington, MN passed away on July 14th, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, James; infant son David; siblings, Ruth, Thomas, Sam, and Sylvia. She is survived by her son Steven; daughter Susan; granddaughters Bianca (Steven Holland) Jakeman, and Tiffany; great grandsons, Jake and John Holland; siblings, Nancy, Muriel, and Mary Lou. Arline was born in Bagley, MN to Ole and Lydia (Low) Ysen. She was one of 8 children and spent her days helping her parents on the farm. She married James Jakeman, also from Bagley, who was enlisted in the Army. Shortly after their marriage, the newly weds were stationed in Germany. They had several other duty stations throughout James' military career and traveled to numerous, wonderful locations. During their travels, they welcomed three children into this world. Her son David died in infancy and her other two children live in Minnesota. When their military service was done, it was time to go back to their roots and return to Minnesota. Arline was a wonderful mother to her children and a devoted wife. She owned her own restaurant for a period of time and worked as a material handler at Control Data until her retirement. Arline was always a child of God, was active in her community and loved giving back. Her and her husband were members of Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel where they made many friends and were involved in community outreach projects, one of which sent care packages to other countries to children and families in need. Arline was very active at the Creekside Community Center. She shared her love of sewing and crochet with her friends and was the lead of the quilting group. Arline was featured in the Bloomington paper when her quilting group donated numerous quilts to the local Fire Department for their use when responding to calls involving domestic situations or calls where children were involved. Arline also worked in the boutique at Creekside. Creekside was one of Arline's favorite places to be. One of Arline's favorite activities was gardening. She loved flowers, trees, and growing her own vegetables. She always looked forward to spring when life returned to her flower beds and she could go outside and get her hands dirty. One humorous thing about Arline was, she loved gardening but was terrified of worms and snakes. While fishing, she used the fishhook removers to bait her hook, refusing to touch the worms. One of her granddaughters chased Arline into the back of a pickup with a grass snake and found it funny to hear her grandma scream. Can you imagine a farm girl from northern Minnesota scared of worms? She had an unmatched green thumb, convincing all who knew her that she could make a stick grow into something beautiful. Arline was a die-hard Minnesota Twins fan, often routing them on from her favorite chair. She enjoyed feeding the birds and would complain about the squirrels but would always set out tasty treats for them. She loved animals, her favorite breed of dog being the red cocker spaniel. Arline was a talented, wonderful, humble and kind woman. She was everything a mother, grandmother, wife, and friend should be. She was everything good in this world, wrapped up in one person. She leaves behind many people who love her and will miss her dearly but through their grief, they know she is free of pain and she is reunited with her loved ones who passed before her. God broke the mold when he made Arline and though she will be missed terribly, she is home with HIM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel or Creekside Senior Center.
