Aphrodite Rappos

Rappos, Aphrodite Korovesi Family and friends mourn the passing of our beloved Aphrodite Korovesi Rappos, adoring Mother and Grandmother. She passed away quietly at home with family at her bedside in Minneapolis, MN on July 12th. Preceded in death by her husband George in 2007. Aphrodite was born on August 18, 1942 to Yiannis and Sophia (Gitsou) Korovesi in Krystallopigi, Greece. As a result of the Greek Civil war, she and her brother Panayoti were sent away for safety and education to Romania and subsequently to Uzbekistan (former Soviet Union) to join her older sister Olga. She then returned to Kastoria in Western Macedonia, where she lived until her marriage to George. Throughout her life, Aphrodite was proud of her Macedonian roots. As newlyweds, Aphrodite & George came to Minneapolis, MN in 1965 where they started their family having two children, Kathy and Steven. Aphrodite and George were thrilled when they became grandparents to Kathy's children Kosma & Luka, who were her pride and joy. Aphrodite was such a loving yia yia and in stereotypically Greek fashion, living next door, she was able to shower them with much love and affection. While raising her family she also dedicated time to helping the elderly residents of Park Convalescent Center keep their dignity at the end of their lives. Switching careers to her passion of sales at Dayton's was a highlight for her, where she enjoyed meeting all types of people. She had a sensitive, affectionate heart, an amazing green-thumb and loved working in the garden with a talent for irises. She is survived by her daughter Kathy (Minneapolis, MN), son Steven (NYC, NY) and grandchildren Kosma and Luka Papadopoulos. Aphrodite was the youngest of five, predeceased by sister Olga Mavropoulou, brother Anastasios Korovesis. She is also survived by brother Pandeli Korovesis and brother Panayoti Korovesis, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews from Kastoria and Thessaloniki Greece. Visitation: Tuesday July 20th, 4-7pm with 6 pm Greek Orthodox Trisagion Service at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel.
