Anton "Tony" Robert Miller

Anton (Tony) Robert Miller passed away February 11, 2022, at the age of 93. Born November 28, 1928, to Elizabeth and Paul Miller. Tony grew up with his eight siblings on the family farm near St. Anthony, ND. Tony proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Korean War. In 2013 Tony, participated in a Veterans tour to Washington DC. He was deeply touched by the respect, dignity and honor shown the Veterans on this trip. Tony Married Pauline Josephine Urlacher (Jo) on October 19, 1953, in New England, ND. A few years later Tony and Jo moved to Minnesota where they raised their daughters Fonda and Sharon. Initially settling in South Minneapolis, Tony worked at Flour City Architectural Metals. In 1967 the Miller family moved to Eagan, MN and Tony began working at John Deere. Tony retired from John Deere in 1991. He joined the John Deere retirees' group, socializing at John Deere luncheons for the next three decades. Tony liked gardening. He loved his trees, flowers, berry patch and tomato plants. He found joy keeping a well-manicured lawn with his John Deere riding mower. Tony and Jo enjoyed playing cards and getting together with friends. They spent many years line dancing and square dancing. They had the privilege of performing historic American Folk dance at the Minnesota State Capitol during America's Bicentennial in 1976. Tony was known for being kind, honest and helpful. He had a quick-witted sense of humor, made friends easily and loved to play pool, especially bumper pool with his grandchildren. Tony and Jo enjoyed vacationing with their daughters visiting many State and National parks. Tony and Jo traveled well into their senior years. His favorite trips were to Yellowstone, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Alaska, and a train trip across Canada. Tony was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandson, spending time with them and attending their special events as often as he could. In 2004 Tony and Jo moved to City Bella in Richfield, MN. At City Bella Tony and Jo enjoyed "Friday with Friends", helping with security walks and attending holiday parties. Jo passed away on December 27, 2010, after which Tony continued to travel, enjoy his family and spend time with his dear friends and his special friend Phyllis. Tony is preceded in death by his wife, Josie, his parents: Elizabeth (Haider) and Paul Miller and five siblings: Joe Schlinger, Andrew Schlinger, Carl Miller, Julia Miller and Frona Miller. Tony's sister Marie Miller recently passed away on March 27, 2022. Tony is survived by his children: Fonda (Phil) Porter and Sharon (Greg) Maurer, five grandchildren: Kristine Maurer (David), Brian Maurer, Steven Maurer, Samantha Daigneault (Carson), Alexis Daigneault (Sarah), and great grandson: Joseph McCluskey. Tony is also survived by two siblings: Josie Fischer and John (Lorraine) Miller, two sisters-in-law: Margie Miller and Johanna Zauner, one brother-in-law: Tom Lue and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by two step granddaughters: Angela (Danny) and Amy (James), three step grandsons: Michael V. (Brittany), Michael B. (Anita), Joseph (deceased), thirteen step great grandchildren: Oliver, Eli, Brianna, Renn, Grace, Dawson, Brandon, Cody, Aubry, Ryan, Aurora, Jonathan and Everly (deceased) and one great great step grandson: Hunter. The funeral will be held Thursday June 9, 2022, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Oakdale MN. Visitation 9:30 AM Mass 10:30 AM Burial with Military Honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Later the same day at 1:30 PM.
