Ann Marie Smith

Ann Marie Smith (Haaf), 55, passed away on June 11, 2025 after a courageous three and a half year battle with fallopian cancer, in addition to recent diagnoses of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and leukemia. She died peacefully surrounded by her family and friends. Ann was born on March 2, 1970 to Leroy "Butch" and Jan Haaf. Ann graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1988. She held positions in the clerical and sales fields, but her favorite job was being a licensed child care provider, which she was for 16 years. Ann was selected as Anoka County Child Care Provider of the Year in 2017. On October 12, 1991 Ann married T.J. Smith. Together they raised their daughter, Madeline (Maddy) Smith, who was born in 2006. Being a mom to Maddy was Ann's greatest joy. Ann's favorite past times were shopping and playing the slots, but she most enjoyed spending time with family and her many friends. Ann follows her mother, Jan Haaf, brother, John Haaf, father-in-law, Theodore Smith and mother- in-law, Linda Smith, to heaven. Ann is survived by her husband, T.J. Smith; beloved daughter Madeline Smith; father Leroy Haaf; siblings Patti (Troy) Weitgenant, Mike (Jodie) Haaf, sister-in-law Tania Haaf, brother-in-law Wayne (Jill) Smith; nieces and nephews Chris (Erica, Henry and Riley), Ryan (Talia), Erica (Matthew), Brooke (Blair), Josh, Courtney (Tim), Noah (Johnna) and Brianna; best friends Kelley Duemke, Sherri Rasmussen and Kim Van Cleave; along with countless others, including many child care families, whose lives Ann touched. Ann will be remembered for her selfless, loving and generous spirit and will be greatly missed by the many who loved her. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Ann at St. Stephen's Catholic Church; 525 Jackson Street, Anoka, MN on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM (Visitation 10-11:00 AM) A luncheon will follow the service at St. Stephen's. There will be a private burial service at Fort Snelling on Friday June 20, 2025. We want to thank everyone at Mercy Hospital and J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Ann, and the support they provided to Ann's family and friends, during Ann's final days.
