Ann Mangner Rank

Rank, Ann Mangner Age 90, of Minneapolis, was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on January 23, 1928 and died in St. Paul on July 1, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Harvey Rank, son, Christopher Jerome, daughter, Jayne Ann Schmitt, grandchildren Michelle Schmitt and Grady Rank, great grandchild Isabelle Kaufmann, and parents, Margaret (Kirschbaum) and Joseph Mangner. She is survived by her loving family, including seven children: Ellen (Dennis) Debe, Brian (Joyce) Rank, Jeffrey (Beth) Rank, Susan (Ron) Krausz, Glen Rank, Emily Rank, and Timothy (Julie) Rank, along with 18 grandchildren (Demetri, Tanya, Derek, Sara, Kevin, Christopher, Mariko, Miki, Kevin, Hannah, Timothy, Daniel, Jacob, Eric, Timothy, Trenton, Cleo, and Ella) and 18 great grandchildren (Seth, Cecelia, Helena, Mikaylah, Lorelai, Maggie, Michael, Briar, Warren, Jayne, Maddox, Lily, George, Calla, Liam, Clara, Samuel, and Maxwell). Ann met her husband, Ben, when she was a teenager in La Crosse, before he enlisted in the Army, and she waited for him to return from World War II. They were married on August 9, 1947, and immediately began having children they didn't stop until they got to nine. Mom's passion was her family. She spent most of her adult life raising her kids, and to her last days she lit up around children, especially babies. If there was a baby in the room, Mom was going to try to hold it. Mom also loved music from listening to the bands for which our Dad was a drummer, to cleaning the house while playing Cleo Laine records, to dancing in her wheelchair for hours last year at her granddaughter's wedding. In 1982, at the age of 54, Mom went back to work outside of the home, managing the giftshop at the University of Minnesota Hospital, where she did great work and made many friends. Although she never had a chance to attend college, Mom was whip smart, and was a great help to her husband, Ben, as he worked his way through his master's degree and PhD in Education. She, along with Ben, held education to be a priority and urged all of her children to keep learning, in whatever path that would take them. Ann was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank all of Mom's fantastic caregivers over the years, and in particular to recognize the warmth and kindness shown by the staff of the Saint Anthony Park Home.
