Ann Dickstein

Dickstein, Ann age 95, passed away on October 9, 2015. Ann grew up in the Bronx, the middle child of a family that escaped the pogroms of Poland by emigrating to the U.S. in 1920. It was a fortunate move because the rest of her parents' extended family, except for one of her father's cousins, were all lost in the Holocaust. As the middle child in a family of 5 children, Ann learned to fend for herself and to be the family caregiver. After graduating from high school she was successful at work, met and married her husband Sid, and with him forged a life that took them to Minnesota in 1962. For two people who had spent all of their lives in New York, the move was both exciting and adventurous. Ann was a great mother to her two sons, and a wonderful partner to Sid-in life and in work. Ann and Sid travelled the world together, and eventually retired to Florida, returning to Minnesota in 2008. She was the last surviving child in her family, and was then adopted by her nieces and nephews as a surrogate parent. They showered her with attention and love, and she delighted in sharing their lives with them. They describe her as a person "full of life, so much fun, and a vibrant and strong role model." Until the current season, Ann continued to enjoy theater, reading, and classical music. She was a season subscriber to two local theaters, and was almost always accompanied by her Nook, which was well stocked with the next books on her reading list. Entering her apartment, one could almost be guaranteed to hear classical music or opera. Ann was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Sidney, and son Ira, and survived by her son Mel Dickstein (Linda Foreman) and grandsons Daniel, Jonathan and Thomas Dickstein. Funeral services will be held at the Adath Jeshuran Synagogue, 10500 Hillside Ln. W., Minnetonka, MN 55305 on Sunday, October 11 at 1 PM. Burial to follow at Beth El Cemetery in New Hope. Shiva wil be at Knollwood Place Apts., 3630 Phillips Pkwy, St. Louis Park on Sun., October 11 at 7PM, and at the Dickstein/Foreman residence, 1912 Girard Ave. So., Mpls. on Mon. and Tues., October 12-13, at 7PM. Memorials in lieu of flowers preferred to the Ann Dickstein Family Fund at Adath Jeshuran Synagogue. Arrangements by Adath Jeshuran Chevra Kavod Hamet and Washburn McReavy 952-920-3996.
