Amy Sweetser

Sweetser, Amy (Kiriluk) Amy Sweetser, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2007. Amy was born on January 3, 1924, and grew up on the Kiriluk family farm in Hallock, MN. Amy graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in 1946. While an undergraduate, she met her beloved husband of 41 years, Theodore H. Sweetser, Jr., MD. They married on June 23, 1947 and immediately shipped out with the U.S. Navy to Yokosuko, Japan. Following urology residencies in Winnipeg and Memphis, they returned to Minneapolis and raised nine children in Edina, MN. Amy was an active volunteer and member of the Minneapolis Woman's Club, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Interlachen Country Club, Catholic Women's League, Women's Auxiliary of St. Mary's Hospital, the League of Women Voters, and was a long time member of Most Holy Trinity & Our Lady of Grace. Amy was a gifted gardener, an avid tennis player, accomplished bridge player and enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends and family. An enthusiastic traveler, she went all over the world with Ted (and kids) including her parents' birthplace in Ukraine. She enjoyed gambling and while in Monaco even met and gambled with Princess Grace, as Amy was on a "hot streak," one of many during her life. Amy lived life fully and without hesitation. Preceded in death by her parents Anton and Helen, her husband Ted, sister Stella, brothers Edward and Lawrence. Amy is sorely missed by all her children: Theodore (Jane Valentine), Mary (Parker Johnson), Amy (James) Lilla, Paul, Jeffrey (Janet), Philip (Mary Ellen), Christine (Steven) Jansen, Sara (Ken Tice) and Jennifer (Terry) Puckett. She will also be much missed by her 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her brothers Walt and Gene will also miss her terribly. Amy was much loved by her family and her many friends. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 23, 11AM, at CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF GRACE, 5071 Eden Ave., Edina. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights, MN.
