Alvin Ray Koering

Age 84, of Fridley, MN passed away on June 29, 2025. Alvin is preceded in death by parents, John and Esther Koering, brother Edward, and beloved wife Mary Jo. He is survived by his children Daniel (Zahra) Koering, Colleen (David) Schuller, and Susan (Scot) Wirth; grandchildren Jane, Josephine and Evan; and siblings Marcella Kotula, Robert (Mary Jean) Koering, Marvin (Gloria) Koering, and Carol (Jack) McNearney. Alvin Ray Koering was born in Brainerd, MN, in 1940 and lived in Fort Ripley, MN, with his family. He attended Brainerd High School and graduated in 1958. Alvin proudly served our nation in the Army from 1959-1962, where he earned the rank of Sgt. Alvin married Mary Jo (Paron) in 1970 and moved to Fridley, MN, where they lived for 55 years. Alvin was a tradesman and a proud union electrician for 30 years with Northern States Power. He enjoyed an early retirement at the age of 56. In retirement, Mary Jo and Al enjoyed many winters on the beaches in Fort Myers, FL, and summers at Mille Lacs Lake. Alvin was an avid fisherman! Whether on Lake Mille Lacs or the Gulf of Mexico, he was happiest out on the water fishing. He made many new friends and wonderful memories, whether traveling down South or to the lake up North. Alvin was also a faithful member of the Church of St. William, in Fridley, for over 50 years, and enjoyed helping the community through acts of service. Throughout his life, Alvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting season. He hunted in central and northern Minnesota with both family and friends. Alvin was many things to many people - he was a devoted and loving husband; a proud and generous father; an adored papa; and a loyal, helpful neighbor who made his community better. Alvin was always willing to help however he could. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, from 5 PM-8 PM at Washburn-McReavy, 4101 Central Avenue NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421. Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 17th at The Church of St. William, 6120 5th St. NE, Fridley, MN 55432. Visitation to start at 10:00 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM, with lunch following the service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Military Honors.
