Allyn Lindstrom

Lindstrom, Allyn August 12/22/28 - 11/14/10 age 81, passed away at home in Bloomington, MN. Born in Oak Park, MN. Grew up in Foreston, MN. Graduated from Milaca High School in 1948. United in marriage to Gladys B. Johnson on 9/11/48. They moved to Mpls, MN in 1948 where he worked for Ford Motor Co. They had three children: Cheryl, Susan and David. In the early 1960s, he began to work for Quaker Hill Inc., selling nursery stock, working both jobs to support his family. As his passion for nursery stock grew, his success with Quaker Hill increased, becoming District Manager before leaving both companies to form his own corporation, Minnesota Valley Landscape. The family moved with the business to Bloomington, MN, where their Bush Lake farm became headquarters for the company. MN Valley Landscape evolved into three different companies including MN Valley Wholesale and MN Valley Garden Center, providing Twin Cities commercial and residential quality nursery stock. MN Valley Landscape jobs are still enjoyed by thousands, including the beautiful trees by the Metrodome and on the sides of many highways throughout the state. The business moved to its current Shakopee location in 1991. The spring drive down Hwy 169 to Mankato continues to be influenced by Al's passion of nursery stock and the beautiful flowering crab trees that the company planted. Al continued to work through his illness showing up at the company headquarters daily until August of this year. He will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Gladys; his children, Cheryl (John) Zilka, Susan (Bob Van Cleve) Lindstrom, David (Sherraye) Lindstrom and his beloved grandchildren, Nick (Linsey) and Nathan Zilka, and Lisa (Rony) Chavez; great-grandchildren, Mateo, Micah and Lincoln; brothers, Jerry (Delores) and Jim (Joan) Lindstrom; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, employees and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Alphon & Olive; sister, Ruby E. Lindstrom and brother, Oscar M. Lindstrom. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer's or Horticultural Institute Research. Interment Dawn Valley Memorial Park.
