Allen William Wiig

Wiig, Allen William Age 91, of Minnetonka, was born Oct. 6, 1923 in Oakes, ND to Zelda and William Wiig & died Jan. 5, 2015. He graduated from Fargo Central High 1941 and NDSU 1949. College was interrupted by U.S Marine Corp Service in WWII where he served with the 2nd Marine Division on Saipan, Okinawa and Occupation at Nagasaki in the first wave after the Atomic bomb. He married Evelyn Ballard June 18, 1949. They moved to Mtka in 1963. He worked for Moore Business forms; then owned & operated the Fargo Moorhead Ambulance Service for 3 years before joining Ford Motor Company for 34 years; worked Auto Shows for many years in the Twin Cities & Fargo/Mrhd, even after he retired.Hobbies and interests were many. He loved working in his work shop & taking his family camping. Spent many years with the Boy Scouts of America, attaining rank of Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver & was Scoutmaster twice; attended 4 Nat'l Jamborees, & held many positions at Council level; also awarded WCCO Good Neighbor Award. Active member of Faith Presbyterian Church of Mtka; many years on the board of Pelican Lake Association coordinating the 4th of July parade & fireworks; Beach Captain of Linden Park Beach for 14 years. Their home on Pelican Lake was the most joy of all. Time with relatives & friends through many years painted by sunsets & stars was "the greatest place on earth". He had a gentle way about him. His children always trusted his knowledge & advice; anyone who knew him, knew he had a heart of gold. His wit & humor will always be remembered along with his soft interior & father image that could counsel & encourage, as well as his love of family & dedication to others especially his wife. He is preceded in death by parents; Sisters Noreen Wiig & Rae Sullivan; & 4 children. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Evelyn, Children: Michael (Mary Beth), Mary Bach, Marjorie Mason (Neal), Marcia Martens (Mike); Grandchildren: Caitlin, Tyler (Cynthia), Dan (Lindsey), Lauren, Jake, Eric, Joe, Sam, Rachel, Matt, Isaac; Great Grandchildren: Haven & Jack. Funeral service at 11 AM on Tues., Jan 13th at Faith Presbyterian Church 12007 Excelsior Blvd. Minnetonka. Visitation from 4-7 PM on Mon., Jan 12th at Washburn-McReavy Strobeck-Johnson Chapel 1400 Mainstreet, Hopkins, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
