Mrs. Alicia Lucas Castillo

Alicia Lucas Castillo: February 5, 1931 - August 8, 2019. Alice passed away peacefully at St Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by her children, grandchildren and relatives. She was born as Alicia Matias Lucas in Legaspi City, Albay, Philippines. She married Drony on January 31, 1955. Though they led a very comfortable life in the Philippines, they immigrated to the US in 1970 to ensure the best education for their 4 children. Alice held a BA in Education. She was proud of being a hard worker and a shrewd saver. She went back to school and took courses at the University of Minnesota. She worked there too. She worked many years at the Dayton’s downtown store as an advertising accounts receivable assistant. She occasionally took on additional part-time work while also taking care of her children and working a full time job. She retired in the late 1990s but continued to work various part-time jobs. During their retirement, she and Drony enjoyed travel not only in their native country but many popular destinations here in their adopted country and in Europe. Through all the years they lived in Minnesota. Even after retirement, she and her husband, Drony, were able to help many friends and relatives emigrate from the Philippines to start their new lives here in Minnesota. They generously shared their success for the betterment of all. Alice was also an ardent community volunteer in the local Filipino-American community. She loved to play her piano during her spare time and dote on her grandchildren and great-grands. Survived by family, many friends, her brothers Pablo, Arthur, and Will, and her sisters Leonor, Sally and Gloria, her children Dony Castillo (Val), Aleth Flores (Dodge), Abby Bosacker (John), and Aubrey Castillo, and also by her 11 grand-children (her most precious achievements), their significant others and her great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a family linked together in love and dedication to ‘family first’. Visitation 4-8 PM Tuesday August 13, at Washburn-McReavy Northeast Chapel, 2901 Johnson St NE, Mpls., 612-781-6828.
