Albert Landry Nienaber, Jr.

NIENABER JR., ALBERT L. Age 92 of St Paul, passed away peacefully February 8, 2020 Bert was born September 6, 1927 and was raised in St Paul, MN. He attended Harding High School graduating in 1945. He then entered the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, FL and served 2 years being honorably discharged in 1947. The following 2 summers, he worked at a new 3M Corona plant that his father Albert Sr., a 3Mer was building in Corona, CA. It was in Corona where he met Janet Bishop. They were soon married in 1950. That same year he began his career at 3M Company as an accountant. Soon daughter Nancy was born, followed by Diane, and Kent. Bert always enjoyed time with the family and vacations together. He loved the outdoors especially fishing, sailing, and vacationing with his family. Bert finished his career at 3M as a Group Controller with 37 years, retiring in 1988. Bert and Janet often took the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world. They also enjoyed spending time with their many friends. Bert was a dedicated and active member of Path of Grace United Methodist Church giving his time and leadership in many capacities. He was a board member of the Minnesota United Methodist Annual Conference from 1987 to 1994. He was an active member of the General Council on Finance and Administration for the United Methodist Church from 1980-1988. He volunteered and was president for the National Association of Accountants for a number of years. And he shared his gifts of leadership and expertise with the Walker Foundation and also as an advisor for SCORE. He also was an active member of the St Paul East Side Lions Club for many years and was awarded the Lion of the Year in 2004. Bert and Janet deeply loved each other and were married for 70 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife Janet and family, with children Nancy Rufledt (Dave), Diane Dragan (Greg), and Kent Nienaber (Kris); 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Albert Sr. and Odessa Nienaber and by his grandson Kyle Nienaber. The service will be 11:00am, Feb. 24, 2020 at Waverly Gardens, 5919 Centerville Rd, North Oaks with the visitation starting at 10:00am. A lunch will follow the service. The family suggests giving memorials to Path of Grace UMC Youth Endowment Fund or PHF Waverly Gardens Chaplaincy Fund.
