Alan Manuel

Alan James Manuel, Age75, of Waconia, MN, born March 22nd, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to James & Marcetta (Dolly) Manuel, passed with family by his side on March 16th, 2024 Alan grew up in Robbinsdale, MN. He graduated from Robbinsdale HS and went on to the U of MN to earn a degree in Business at the Carlson School of Business. He spent 40 years of his life working for the phone company, once known as Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and later as Qwest Communications, then CenturyLink, and is currently called Lumen. Alan met Victoria at Northwestern Bell in 1979 and they were married on February 2nd, 1980. They had two daughters. Katherine Manuel born October 10, 1983, and Colleen Kempner born March 9, 1987. In the early years of marriage, Alan enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, tennis, and racquet ball as well as bike riding. He was also an avid crossword puzzle fan and would sometimes dabble in Sudoku with Victoria. They spent many weekends at Lake Sylvia where his parents had property. He quickly shared his love of fishing with Victoria, and they spent many hours peacefully on the lake or sitting on the dock taking in nature and the peace it gave to them both. Alan loved all college and professional sports and could be referred to as a walking encyclopedia for any sport. In the early years of their marriage, he and Victoria had the U of MN season basketball tickets and every Sunday his blood pressure would always rise when the Vikings played, whether they won or lost. He enjoyed both college and professional sports but his favorite of all time, were the MN Twins. He was one of their 'true' die-hard fans. It quickly became a favorite thing to go to the Twins games together, whether at Hammond stadium in FL or the stadium in MN even when it was the dome in MN! Having two girls was his pride and joy and as they grew up, he coached them in fast pitch softball and basketball. Weekends gradually became less of fishing, golfing, biking, tennis, or any other sport he and Victoria enjoyed together. Traveling for swimming, basketball, soccer, fastpitch, and show choir each weekend was where you would find them celebrating, cheering for, and relishing in Katherine and Colleen's activities. Alan was a dedicated father and husband. Alan loved all animals and always had a soft spot for the dogs the family had throughout the years. Alan was born with a damaged aortic heart valve and was aware that in adulthood he would need to have the valve replaced. September 2008 was when that took place and from that time on, his health began to decline with a struggling heart, many other health complications took place over the several years from that initial surgery. He was always strong and persevered to get back his strength each time something took him down. His body was tired. He was tired and during his final days we talked about how grateful we were that God sent Jesus to die for our sins so that we may have eternal life without pain and suffering. Alan was a gentle man with a huge tender and kind heart. Alan would want people to rejoice that his suffering is over, that he is freed from his tired body. He would want people to remember the good times, the memories he made with you, and the times you had with him. Alan is preceded in death by his mother (Marcetta), father (Jim), and younger sister Jean Denis. He is survived by his beloved wife Victoria, two daughters, Katherine Manuel (Ben Follansbee) and Colleen (Mike) Kempner, two grandsons, Stanley Alan Kempner, Henry Michael Kempner, and one granddaughter, Sophia Isabel Follansbee, and his sister Mary Manuel. There will be a celebration of Alan's life on May 24th at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home, 5000 W. 50th Street & Hwy 100, Edina, MN 55436. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Salvation Army or a local food shelf.
