Al "Big Al" Janohosky

Janohosky, Al "Big Al" Age 89 of Minneapolis. Devoted and loving husband, father, great/grand-father, and friend. Pre- ceded in death by wife Alyce, grandsons Allen and William Janohosky, Jr., and daughter-in-law Brenda Janohosky. Survived by children Bill, Bob, Luanne (Joe) Welter, and Bruce (Beth); grandchildren Christi Strangstalien and Jenny Janohosky, Jolene (Chad) Bennett, Michael Welter, Laura (Trevor) Lussier, Sonja (Alex) Talley, and Kelly Janohosky; great-grandchildren Cassondra, Lauren, Caleb, Addison, Austin, and Amelia; special friend and longtime companion Shirley Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Al honorably served his country as an American Army foot soldier in WWII and fought in battles in Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe; he received the Bronze Star for valor in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a proud member of the Richfield VFW 5555, and was employed by Edina Public Schools as its Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, as well as Great Northern Railroad. Al loved spending time at his cabin on Yellow Lake in Webster, Wisconsin, which was a favorite gathering place for family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, and planting trees, and was known to be able to fix anything. Always generous with his time, Al was known for helping those in need. The family would like to thank the staff of Fairview Southdale Hospital, Mainstreet Village and the Masonic Home for their exceptional care and kindness. A special thanks to Dr. Liston and Dr. Rousey and his loving neighbors and friends who supported us in his journey. Dad, you are loved and will be missed so very much. You will be forever in our hearts! Join us in celebrating Al's life and lively spirit at the memorial service, 12 NOON, Thursday, February 19th. Visitation 1 hour prior.
