Ahna Marie Wheeler

Ahna Marie Ask was born May 5th, 1943 at St Vincent Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin and died peacefully at her home in Blaine, Minnesota surrounded by family on June 4th, 2024. Ahna grew up in Houston, Minnesota, the eldest of 10 children. She loved sewing, cooking, baking and pulling together gourmet meals from the ether; her legendary thrift and concern for the other continued until the very end. During her years at Houston High School, Ahna was on the Pom Pon Squad and an active participant in 4H and sang in the church choir. Ahna attended Bethel College for one year, but her undergraduate studies were paused for matters of the heart. She met Ray Wheeler harmonizing in the church choir, and they were married in August of 1963. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Seoul, Korea to join her husband Ray on his military assignment. A lifelong learner, she soaked up both cultural and culinary experiences of Asia that sparked a lifelong gustatory curiosity and a respect for other cultures. Upon returning from Korea, she completed her BS in Elementary Education at Winona State University and taught kindergarten for 3 years in the Roseville Area School district before moving to Green Bay Wisconsin where she raised their two spirited boys, Ryan and Braden. Ahna delighted most in helping others. She provided full-time, in-home care for her late husband Ray during his 6-year battle with Alzheimer's. Prior to his decline, she, Ray, and her sister Faith, provided years of Alzheimer's care for her mother-in-law and Aunt Hilder, all while raising their precious Breanna, niece to Ahna and Ray, daughter to Faith. Ahna was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Persis Ask, sisters Janice Ask and Carrie (Steve) Craig, and brothers David and Terry (Sandy) Ask. She is survived by her son, Ryan (Malynn Utzinger) Wheeler; son, Brady (Tina Pamintuan) Wheeler; grandson PK Wheeler; grand-daughter Valentina Wheeler, and siblings Paul (Janet) Ask, Arlouene (Bob) Pickett, Faith Ask, Jonathan Ask, and Miriam (Nate)Bawden, loving cousins and extended family. Friends are invited to a Memorial Celebration of Ahna's life at The North Church. Visitation will take place at 5151 Program Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55112 on June 29th, 2024 at 10am. Services at 11am, with a light luncheon to follow. Ahna will be buried next to her late husband Ray Wheeler at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The North Church and the Alzheimer's Association.
