Adeline Orpha (Matson) Gwin

Adeline Orpha Gwin (Matson) 89, passed away at her home, Select Senior Assisted Living, Coon Rapids, Mn. She was born March 5, 1928 to John and Gida Matson near Ulen, Mn. At the age of 17, Adeline married the love of her life, Joseph Raymond Gwin (age18). She was his faithful wife and companion for 72 years. Adeline gracefully battled Alzheimer’s her last years with Joe who took amazing care of her. In life, Adeline served as a homemaker, caring for her husband as well as raising their 6 children that she loved dearly. Much of their lives, they pastored churches in West Fargo, Fargo, and Bismarck, N.D., Rockford, Ill. and Anoka, Mn. Adeline taught children’s church and Bible School. They loved music and sang duets while Adeline played the accordion and Joe played the guitar. She was a quiet, gentle lady with a song, nursery rhyme or jingle for every occasion. She modeled contentment and happiness and made their home welcoming to everyone. They often had “company” and overnight guests who enjoyed her good home cooking. She became famous for her rhubarb and apple pies. Whatever Adeline did, she did with excellence. She sewed much of the family’s clothes when the children were young, and did crafts, baked wedding cakes and sewed draperies; a real do-it-yourself lady. Waiting to welcome Adeline to Heaven were her daughter, Sharon, Mother and Father, 6 siblings, and many loved ones. Surviving Adeline are her husband, Joseph, 5 children: Sandra Stone-Schaaf (Jerry), Claudia Doroshuk (Walter), Richard (Viv), Randal (Ronae) and Rachelle Lewis, sister, Loretta Braseth, 12 grandchildren, great grandchildren and many extended family members. Adeline will be greatly missed. She was a gentle soul who led by example and taught her family to love the Lord Jesus Christ as she did. She had a pure servant’s heart with total devotion to her Lord, husband and family. There will be a private graveside service at Fort Snelling for the immediate family at a later date. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Anoka, 1235 Park Ave., Anoka, Mn. Visitation at 10.
