Mrs. Adeline LaVern Dahl

Adeline (Addy) Dahl Adeline (Addy) Dahl was born in Grand Forks, ND, the only daughter of Nels and Alma. She attended school in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School in 1949. After graduation she worked as a secretary at the Red River National Bank in Grand Forks. She was united in marriage to James A. Dahl in 1952 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND. James graduated from UND Law School in 1953 and they moved to Alexandria, MN, where they resided until 1962. Their first son, David was born in Grand Forks and Daniel, Richard, Linda, and Sonja were born in Alexandria. While living in Alexandria, Adeline was assistant organist at First Lutheran Church, pianist for Sunday School, treasurer of the Lutheran Ladies Association, and gave piano lessons in her home. After moving to the Twin Cities, they built a new home in New Brighton. They joined Christ the King Lutheran Church at that time and became very active in choir, doing solo work as well as participating in several musicals. They both also sang in the Frederic Hilary Chorale and later in the Reformation Singers. In addition to her music, Adeline was also active in her Circle and WELCA at Christ the King, served as wedding coordinator, taught Bible School, served on the Church Council and participated in group Bible Studies offered. Adeline was primarily a homemaker and mother to their five children but also worked outside the home doing secretarial work. While the five children were in college and technical schools, she worked full time at NCR Comten, becoming secretary to the President. After retiring, Jim and Addy moved to their lake home at Miltona, MN, and became very active in Faith Lutheran where Jim directed the choir and Addy the bell choir in addition to serving on several committees and church council. Addy was such a warm, kind, generous, and welcoming person; she was loved by all who knew her. Her musical talent, both singing and playing piano, gave joy to herself and others around her. Addy sewed, quilted, crocheted, and embroidered, and these works of art are treasured by her family. No one could surpass her ability at making lefse, which she did for every Thanksgiving and Christmas. She valued her Norwegian heritage and made the journey back to Norway to find her relations, with whom she retained lifelong friendships. As embodied in her marriage of 65 years, Addy’s love and strength was her family. Adeline L. Dahl, age 88, passed away peacefully the morning of April 3rd, 2020. Addy was preceded in death by husband James A. Dahl. Survived by children David, Daniel, Richard (Julie), Linda (Jon) Lennander, Sonja; grandchildren, Christopher (Tarah), Eric (Kaitlin), Amber (Russell Dugger) Dahl, Jay Lennander; great grandchildren, Emma and Elliana Dahl.
