Abbigail Joy Mertig

Abbigail Joy Mertig (McGown) passed away on March 21, 2024, in St. Louis Park, MN, at the age of 46 after a courageous battle with a chronic illness. She was born on January 13, 1978, in Edina, MN. Abby was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Abby was a fiercely dedicated mom, putting her family above all else. She instilled the value of family in all those around her. She will be deeply missed by her children Madeline, Benjamin, Annalise, and Joshua, her former husband Aaron, as well as her mother Nola, father Daniel, sister Hillary, and the rest of her extended family. Abby graduated from St. Louis Park High in 1996 as an honor student. After graduating from high school, Abby went on to pursue a bachelor's degree in education at Northland College in Ashland, WI. She furthered her education at St. Catherine's, where she earned her master's degree in occupational therapy in 2013. Abby was a classroom Teacher and later an Occupational Therapist, touching the lives of many with her caring and nurturing nature. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time at the beach, listening to music, making homemade crafts and projects, and being surrounded by friends and family. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Abby was known for her warm and caring personality. Abby was a devoted mom to all her children, raising all four of them to be incredibly resilient and independent. Family came first and was the centerpiece in Abby's life, a value she instilled in all those around her. Her friends were numerous wherever she went, the hole left by her absence is impossible to fill. She had a generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Family and friends are invited to attend the services honoring Abby on Thursday, April 4th, at Washburn-Mcreavy Funeral Chapels, 5000 W 50th St., Edina, MN. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm, with the service following at 2:00pm. In addition to her immediate family, Abby is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Lester, grandmother Joyce, and her Uncle John. Abby's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the GoFundMe set up in her parents' names.
