Walter Hartman

Hartman, Walter G. Age 73, of St. Louis Park, MN, went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2008. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lucille Hartman. Survived by daughters, Christy and Cindy; grandchildren, Sam and Joshua; brother, Tom and wife Sylvia; nephews and nieces, Ryan, Matthew, Melissa and Olivia; Uncle Dow George and friend Dorith. Walt was born on July 14, 1934 in Minneapolis. Graduated from North High School in 1952. Served in the Army in Germany from 1957-1959. Graduated from the U of M with a Bachelor of Science degree. Walt worked for the Minneapolis housing and redevelopment authority as supervisor of project operations. After 14 years with the Mpls Housing Auth., he moved on to the League of Minnesota Cities as director of technical assistance and research services. Then in 1981 he went to Holmes and Gravens Chartered and headed up a fiscal analysis department which operated within the law firm to assist attorneys in analyzing and structuring public financing including over 75 tax increment projects. In 1987 he started his own Tax Increment Finance business called Municipal Econonomic Development Network, which was very successful until he retired. Walt was a member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. Held office in the Minnesota Chapter and received various public service awards. He was a member of the Economic Development Association of MN, was Secretary of St. Louis Park Authority Commissioners and held other offices during his tenure. Walt traveled all over the world and took part in archeological digs in Israel. He loved history, biking, sailing, antique toys, architecture and especially his two cats. He loved to laugh, chat and get the latest scoop. He was a loving dad, grandpa and a great friend to many people, we will miss him greatly. A special thank you to Methodist Hospital doctors, nurses and staff for their excellent and compassionate care of Walt.
