Una Norene Swanson

Una Norene Swanson let God lead her from this world on October 19th, 2024, where she will join her beloved husband, Vernon Lester Swanson (deceased, May 9th, 2011). She is preceded in death by her mother, Clara F. Anderson, and father, William R. Anderson. Una was born in Eau Claire, WI, on May 6th, 1933, where she grew up with her two younger brothers, William and Darrell Anderson. She married her doting husband Vernon, brother of her dear friend Joanne Gregoire, in 1952. They started their family of six in Eau Claire before moving to Minnetonka, MN, in 1966. She was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins for 58 years. After many years of raising her family and sewing at home, she followed in her mother's unique footsteps and forged a path as a modern career woman. Her gifted skills as a seamstress opened the door to many career opportunities, including management and traveling to Brazil and Australia. She ended her career as a trusted executive assistant at a medical company. Forever the matriarchal pillar of her family, she is survived by two brothers; four children, Deb Erickson and her husband Dale Erickson, Jennifer Garrison and her partner Lloyd Heitz, David Swanson and his wife Anne Swanson, and Steve Swanson and his wife Beverly Swanson; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; thirteen family dogs; and innumerable friends and extended family. She cherished her family thoroughly and taught them the meaning of deep and unconditional love. Una loved a good call or visit, and we will forever miss her role as the designated family newscaster. She loved gardening and needlepoint and knitting. She loved a well-coordinated outfit, preferably of color. She loved attending church online and reading her prayer books. She loved getting lost in the newspaper. She loved staying up late, a full cookie jar and candy dish, a dozen roses on her coffee table, and spoiling her grandchildren. In her own words, she was thankful for a loving marriage, for four great and loving kids (plus grand and great-grandchildren), for always being able to support her family, for her family ALWAYS understanding each other, and for her children being there whenever she needed them. She celebrated God's Blessings for a long life with her family, and she will be thoroughly missed by those who loved her so dearly. To know Una was to know how to be loved. We love you and carry you in our hearts, Grandma. Memorial services presided over by Rev. Howie A. Krienke will be on November 15, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins Minnesota, with visitation at 10-11:00, service 11:00-12:00, followed by lunch.
