In Loving Memory of Ronald Otten Sr. With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved father, Ronald Otten Sr., who left us on February 1, 2025, at the age of 80. He spent his final moments surrounded by family and friends, just as he had spent his life-deeply connected to those he loved. Ron was a man of wisdom, humor, and quiet strength. A dedicated provider, he spent over 20 years as an MTC bus driver, earning numerous awards for his outstanding service before becoming a custodian at Saint Philip's Church, where his journey in faith and education first began. His work was more than a job; it was a way of serving others, something he did in all aspects of his life. He had a deep love for adventure and a knack for making every moment count. Whether it was hitting the open road with no set destination, crossing into Canada on a whim, or escaping to his cabin for laughter-filled weekends, he embraced life with an explorer's heart. He had an unmatched ability to turn ordinary moments into lifelong memories-often with a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a handful of fireworks ready to light up the night. For nearly 23 years, Ron was a dedicated member of Our Friends Place, his AA club. He understood the power of showing up, of being there for others even when life made it difficult. His presence was steady, his words few but meaningful, his one-liners both humorous and profound. He led by example, proving that resilience and dedication could change lives-not just his own but countless others who leaned on him for support. Above all, Ron was a man of many roles and immeasurable impact. He was a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother, a cousin, a coworker, and a friend. He was a handyman, a woodworker, a protector, and a stand-in father to those who needed one. He never turned his back on the people he cared about. If you mattered to him, he was there-no questions asked. Ron is survived by his children, Rhonda Engberg, Rachelle (Scott) Flynn, Kristina (John) Aitkin, and Ron Otten Jr.; his six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. They will carry forward his legacy of love, humor, and unshakable loyalty. Though we have lost our most cherished dad, many have lost a friend, a confidant, and a rock. His spirit lives on in the laughter he shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. We invite all who knew and loved Ron to join us in celebrating a truly remarkable man. His was a life well-lived, and he will never be forgotten.
