Rollin Child

Child, Rollin B. - Former Owner of Rollin B. Child, Inc., A Distributor Of Ceramic Tile And related products in the Midwest, died June 9, 2003. He was 88. He is survived by his sons, R. Tom Child (Grace) of Maple Grove, MN; and Rodger E. Child (Terry) of Washburn, WI; his daughter, Nancy C. Johnson of Sebastian, FL; brother E. Tom Child (Geraldine) of Findlay, OH; brother, Harold (Hal) Child (Ellen) of Grand Rapids, MI; and a sister Ann (Dr. Jerry) Sheaffer of Findlay, OH; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Virginia; father, D. Earl Child; mother, Anna B. Child; sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Dr. John F. Loyd; and son-in-law, Steven C. Johnson. Rollin was born May 9, 1915 in Findlay, OH. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1937 with a B.A. in business administration and a minor in political science. Rollin moved to Hopkins, MN in 1947. He served as a member of the Hopkins School Board from 1952-71, including 8 1/2 years as chairman. He was a founding member of two trade organizations, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute and the National Association of Floor Covering Distributors. Rollin also helped found Chapel View, Inc., a non-profit nursing home and senior apartment complex in Hopkins and served as a member of the Methodist Hospital Board of Trustees for 13 years. He was a member of Hopkins Methodist Church for over 50 years and also an associate member of the Sebastian, Florida United Church of Christ from 1989 until his death. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Hopkins for over 50 years, and served as president of that organization from 1954-55. He was also an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Sebastian, FL. Rollin enjoyed fishing and boating and cruising on the Great Lakes. IN 1974 he helped organize the Madeline Island Yacht Club. Service Tuesday 6/17, 11AM with visitation one hour before at HOPKINS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 717 Highway 7, Hopkins 55305. Interment Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hopkins United Methodist Church, Rotary Foundation, Rotary Club of Hopkins, or donor's choice.
